Credited as Ottawa\u2019s founder, By was responsible for overseeing the construction of the Rideau Canal and helping shape Bytown\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Built atop what is now Major\u2019s Hill Park, his house overlooked the entrance locks to this 200-kilometre waterway.
