- After their Stanley cup win in 1905, an Ottawa Silver Sevens player attempted to kick the cup (much smaller of course than it is today) across the Rideau Canal. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the Stanley cup reportedly fell into the iced-over canal to be rescued the following day.
