Important dates

  • In 1923 this Ottawa Alerts women’s hockey team won the Ladies Ontario Hockey Association’s Robertson Cup led by “scoring ace” Shirley Moulds (seated right behind the trophy). A hundred years later, when one of the original six PWHL teams made Ottawa its home,  they briefly considered calling themselves the Alert before settling on the Ottawa Charge.

What happened here?

  • At Dey’s Arena, located near here,  the Alerts took the first of the two-game championship series against North Toronto 1-0 in front of 4,000 fans on 20 March 1923. They went on to win the second game 5-2 a few days later in Toronto. Renowned for their speed, stick-handling skills, and accuracy in both passing and shooting, the Alerts would win five championships in all.
